Upgrading a Basic Beanie

Supplies:

1 skein Lion Brand Thick & Quick in Charcoal

Red Heart Super Saver in Gray 

N Hook

R1: Ch 3.  8 DC in 1st ch.  Join in top of 1st DC made.

R2: Ch 2.  2 DC in each st to end.  Join in top of 1st DC made.

R3: Ch 2.  *2 DC, 1 DC* Repeat to end.  Join in top of 1st DC made.

R4: Ch 2.  *2 DC, 1 DC in each of next 2 st* Repeat to end.  Join in top of 1st DC made.
R5: Ch 2.  *2 DC, 1 DC in each of next 3 st* Repeat to end.  Join in top of 1st DC made.
R6: Ch 2.   1 DC in each st to end.  Join in top of 1st DC made.
Continue R6 to desired length.

Adding surface crochet band:
Join yarn between rows by inserting hook from outside to inside of hat, then around strand of yarn to outside of hat.  YO and pull up a loop.  Continue this loosely around the entire hat and join in the 1st st made.
